About

Vladimir Fainberg was born on the 19th of May, 1930. When he was a teenager, he began to write poetry. In 1949, he entered the Department of Poetry of the Maxim Gorky Institute of Literature where he was the only high school graduate among the returning war veterans and those who had some industrial workers’ experience. As a Jew with a typical Jewish last name, he did not want to hide it behind a pseudonym.

A struggle for an opportunity for publishing poetry, not to lose himself, not to drown in deceitful phraseology that carried the name of «socialistic realism». Higher screenplay courses and directing courses. Frustrated hopes to self–actualize in films. Everything is rather trivial and sad, but quite within the logics of non–conformist position that had been initially occupied.

In the 70–s the not very fortunate writer and director happens to get to a clandestine laboratory, supervised by a theorist physician. But the subject of research was parapsychology. Nowadays, when all the commercial publications are full of healer–service offers, it is very hard to understand what a great commotion it was for a person living in a material, i.e. «presentative» world, to really perceive unknown strength.

That experience had given an impulse to spiritual insight, considerable part of which was due to 12-years-old friendship with Fr. Alexander Men. Also that experience turned out to become the motive of his creative writing. A novel «Here and Now» had been written with no prospect of publishing in the Soviet Union, and first appeared in 1991, originating the series «The practice of the spiritual search».

Nowadays there are published 10 books of this series, including a book of poems of different years «The Invisible Side».

…Vladimir Fainberg passed away on the 24th of July 2010.
